From the warm, welcoming text message to the gracious check out text message, we were treated as valued guestsAlena and Owen provided outstanding customer service, our room was perfect, the views spectacular, it was so quiet, the mattress and pillows divine, it was super easy to control the room’s temperature, and it’s only a 10 minute easy walk to the center of townWe highly recommend staying at The Shire when you’re visiting Woodstock VT!

Don Tomaz

Amazing communication & top tier service – this is truly the best accommodation in Woodstock, VTI was not able to complete my stay due towards my girlfriend losing her passport in Montreal a day earlier! (but thats another story)Patrick is a true gem to have at The Shire Woodstock – he helped us along the way with timely responses and true attention to detail for his guests A+

Gretchen Sauer Stuart (GSS)

This is a motel that has been in Woodstock for years The advertising made it seem they had remodeled and changed it into a hotel The rooms open onto the main street and it may be difficult to get rooms together

Rooms at the ends of the building did not get good WiFi or cell (AT&T) cell coverageAll this would have been fine if advertised as such Unfortunately I felt misled When I discovered it was a motelI did get good customer care and refunds

I stayed a week in the Studio King room The room was bigger than I expected and very clean There was a closet to store my things

A large dresser for clothing Plenty of counter space in the bathroom Sitting area with a table Loved having a smart tv for streaming Loved the many options at the continental breakfast Location was close to a lot of activities in the area The hotel was very quiet and I felt safe Couple of things to improve on: room smelled like bug spray when I arrived The mini fridge froze everything Deadbolt lock was broken so I couldn’t use that for added security None of these things distracted from my stay and I’m sure would have been easily fixed if I mentioned it to the staff Overall, great hotel and I would stay here again

Andrew Kassouf

We just traveled through New England and stayed at many hotels including 3 Marriott brands This hotel had the largest room of all of the Fairfield hotels which was great for my family There was the biggest refrigerator in this room as well which was very helpful especially since we bought so much Vermont cheese to take home with us

Our profile states feather free rooms and when I check in I was told that it had been set that way When we went to bed we noticed all of the pillows were feather pillows The hotel brought us more feather pillows as a replacement We ended up having to help him search the pillow stash for feather free pillows This was very frustrating The breakfast was very full of items complete with 3 egg choices, 3 meat choices among the other continental breakfast items The down side was that the breakfast meats were cold, there was no water at breakfast You had to go to the gym to fill a glass This was the first hotel I have stayed at in years with the old key card system which failed a few times and I had to get new keys We were told that this hotel is due for a complete remodel soon We also rarely do laundry at a hotel like this but had a need for it this time It was not clear how much it cost to do laundry which caused us problems When my wife went to ask about it the staff was rude saying that no body else has had an issue with that for the last 10 weeks since they had been working here He also said that their price is way cheaper than the laundromat This may be true but we don’t use a laundromat and have no point of reference This gentleman was the first we have encountered on our trip that did not meet the expectations of the Marriott brand

I’d describe this hotel as fair, adequate, acceptableIf you can find another hotel with better reviews, go thereThe king size executive room was standard – the usual

Nothing out of the ordinary Though the TV was an LG with a great picture Breakfast was standard fair, omelette was goodThe shower neck was broken, wobbling in the wall The towels are oddly on a shelf in the shower The bed was super soft, if you like it that way The young man at the front desk was not helpful Asked for a luggage rack and was told the hotel had none Yet I had one in my room When I pointed that out, he shrugged Only one luggage cart for the facilityWe ate at Chili’s in West Lebanon Good service Good $10 meal Good burger 10 minutes from hotel 99 restaurant across the street had a 25 minute wait Chili’s had noneAgain, the hotel is acceptable but go someplace else if you can find one with better reviews

The Hanover Inn is a beautiful, well run hotel I stay here when visiting my daughter at The College The location directly across the street from Dartmouth College and on picturesque Main St can not be beat

The staff are always so welcoming and kind The service is always amazing The rooms are cozy and very clean Can’t say enough good things about this place I always look forward to my stays here

Michael Modes

High end independent hotel sitting on the edge of the Dartmouth campus The restaurant was filled each evening with parents visiting their student children Funny to watch the kids trying real hard to tolerate their parents now that they knew everything there is to know

Beware the rooms on the street side which has a window directly opposite the street light Great hotel otherwise

K Sutton

Had a wonderful one night stay on a mobile family vacation at this historic inn in quaint old New England Enjoyed the well appointed King bedroom corner suite with a beautiful view of the town square and old streets The huge X-mas tree lit against fresh snow at night was magical as we were cozy in the comfy room

Also enjoyed an excellent dinner at the restaurant with top-notch service All in all a perfect stop on our trip and highly recommended

Barbara Zdravesky

I booked this hotel for two nights and stayed for one The positives first – the place has the look of a country lodge and the very large lobby has fountains and little pools of fish and turtles The immediate area is purely commercial, with lots of stores and restaurants, but many attractions and beautiful places are just a short drive away

The bed was comfortable, but the mattress was slanted and uneven The hotel employees were pleasant The negatives – my room was dark and shabby, with old and worn furniture The carpet is old and dirty, with bare patches The toilet was leaking water at its base, and the tub drained slowly In general, I wasn’t confident my room had been thoroughly cleaned in a long while If I wanted to nitpick, I’d write about the bar in the closet being so close to the wall that the hangers scrape against it, and the “bars” of soap that are provided are about as thin as a credit card, hardly worth unwrapping They say you get what you pay for, but in this case I didn’t The rate I paid was double what this hotel should charge, at least until they clean it up

Cheryl Brown

First of all,the outside was disgusting, that should have been the first red flag,we walked in,it smelled like wet dog, which it’s a pet friendly hotel To get to our first room after being created by rude employees, and it was upstairs which we were told it was on the first floor my husband’s handicapped, in the room was being painted, second room had hair on the floor in the bathroom, tub was black and disgusting shower curtain was moldy The manager was nice and gave us a refund and we went and stayed at the Hilton much better experience

Gentle Nomad

Prompt check in Tastefully furnished room, that was well cleaned Nice touch with the free waters, coffee, cookies

Location is right In town I skipped valet as I had a pre 9 am departure Much to my surprise The manager berated me on front of others asking my last name and room number on my departure morning i promptly provided and was thentold I would be charged a fee of $75 For my pet too add insult to Injury the manager then attempted toact like he was simply being thorough rather than taking responsibility for never asking me at check inmind youthe hotel has doggy bowls everywhere what could have been a pleasant stay now just another spot where power power trips but fails to deliver true customer service Also the cleaning person on 4th floor refused to acknowledge me when I said good morning Makes it easy to give 1 star

Mark Grim

This above average hotel property missed the mark on a number of things one expects in a great hotel They are short staffed with the front desk person also working as the valet This led to longer than acceptable wait times for check in and valet service

The room was a typical hotel room size with above average furnishings and decor, but not spectacular It is conveniently located in Hanover near shops and restaurantsThe shower was dirty with moldy caulk around the perimeter of the base (See photo) We informed the staff at check-out and were told we would get some follow-up from management That did not happenFrom my recent experience, there are nicer, cleaner options nearby in Hanover in the same price bracket

Harley DeWald

The hotel website advertised parking, views from the rooms and a restaurant&bar When booking the room, mystery fees raised the room price by nearly 50% Upon arrival we were charged another $50 preauthorization, told that parking was valet only for $23, and that the restaurant and bar were closed

The view from our room was a brick wall The room itself was lovely but for a one night stay cost of $478, there wasn’t a single amenity It was like a boujee best western with no pool or breakfast

I would say that our stay was comparable to staying at a big name hotel chain as far as the accommodations go The inn shined in three different ways though! 1 – they jump started my car after I left the keys in the ignition with my lights on overnight 2 – upon checking out they made “to-go” boxes for us as we stated we wouldn’t be staying for breakfast

3- The inn dogs were my favorite part, as I was missing my own dogs at home I was absolutely charmed by this destination and would definitely recommend it to family and friends staying in the area I hope that we find time to make it back some day!

Barry Mikkelsen

Cute cozy inn Drove over 1000 miles to get here to meet up with my thru hiker wife Breakfast was a treat

Cell service sucked but the Inn has the newest WiFi6 access points We really enjoyed our 3 day stayI circled back to write a review when I came across an old photo of my one big concern — extension cords Being an old Inn there aren’t many receptacles in the rooms Their usage of extension cords is a HUGE fire hazard One example with photo proof: Our window unit A/C was plugged into a 3-way extension linking one side of the bed to the other side, where its ground pin was broken off to a 3-way non-grounded lamp18 gauge extension cord, which ran behind a dresser to another lamp/18 gauge 3-way splitter on an old receptacle that has no grounding either All of those extensions and splitters would melt and catch fire before a breaker would actually trip All those missing/broken ground locations are trouble alsoThis is all against electrical code and no idea how the fire marshal hasn’t seen thisI should have raised this concern prior but forgot then Hope they see this now and do something about it

Brian Bigda

We were up for the weekend to Ski the Dartmouth Skiway and really enjoyed our stay at the Dowds’ Country Inn When we arrived from a long day of skiing, the reception was warm and welcoming Coffee/tea was available and pastries were also available

Our room was well appointed and very comfortable Was a little worried about noise as we were on the bottom floor close to the reception/dining, but the Inn has a fairly strict noise policy and we were able to sleep through the night no problem Dinner at the attached Latham Tavern was also excellent Morning breakfast was fantastic What really impressed us though was how friendly and helpful the entire staff was The location was ideal for exploring and skiing in that area We’ll be back next time we’re in the area!

My wife and I did an Impromptu road trip from Southern NH to Windsor – planned to spend some time seeing local sites, visiting Harpoon and the Artisan Village We could not have had a better experience with Snapdraggon The Inn was well maintained, the rooms were spacious and well kept (heated bathroom floors was a nice touch)

The breakfast items (including fresh waffles batter ready to cook and a solid assortment of fresh fruits) were great Would have zero issue recommending The Snapdragon to friends

Carolina O

Better than I had expected Our stay was lovely, cozy, warm Spacious room, big comfortable bed with clean lush bedding, heated floor in the bathroom, bright and sunny, impressively clean

Plenty to choose from for breakfast – local preserves, fruit, oatmeal, organic yogurt, granola HB eggs, bagels, waffles, toast, cereal etc Would love to say here again Town closes early so make sure to grab dinner before 8

Bonnie Johnson

Great place with lots of history The rooms were comfortable and decorated nicely, The house is updated but still holds the charm and feel of old days The continental breakfast was a perfect mix of fruit, home made breads, maple spreads and more

We stayed in one of the king rooms with a comfy overstuffed high bed, heated bathroom tiles, large claw-foot tub and separate shower There were spacious sitting areas in the room and in the common areas I know I sound like a travel agent—but this was my first B&B stay in Vermont and it was so nice, it will be hard to top

After finding the location I arrived to a well maintained and well lit facility I was greeted by a very courteous and professional front desk agent

They offered me a room and described all the amenities offered at the hotel The transaction was very prompt and professional I appreciated the level the efficiency and competence with my service After purchasing a room for the night I retrieve a dolly to carry my luggage to my room I entered to a clean and sanitized room After unloading my luggage I returned the dolly to the front desk The agent then proceeded to ask if the room was to my liking I replied yes And then returned to my room and proceeded to enjoy my stay

We needed a room due to an emergency with a family member having to be transferred to the local hospital The gentlemen that I called and spoke to about reserving a room was extremely helpful and made us reservations immediately so we didn’t have to worry about where we were going to sleep while arrivingin the area at 2:30 am Check in was a breeze and quick thank god being so tired from driving 3 hours to get there

I’m not sure this gentleman name but he absolutely went above and beyond making us feel like a top priority We entered the room and it was super clean and had lots of storage space for your needs The shower had great water pressure and was stocked with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel( thank god because I totally forgot to pack that) Tge beds were average but the pillows were extremely comfortableWhen we woke up we went to the breakfast buffet which had lots of options which was a pleasant suprise Roberta was an absolute pleasure to talk to and greeted us immediately with a good morning and smile Roberta had then came to our table and asked how our food was and if we needed anything The food was above what I expected from a hotels breakfast and definitely was better then a fast food restaurant I highly recommend this hotel to anyone having to visit this area or near by Great job by your excellent staff on making our stay worry-free and comfortable

We loved our stay at the Windsor Mansion Inn the weekend after Thanksgiving Andy was the most gracious host and shared interesting stories of the history of the property Andy also was a great tour guide, giving us tips on restaurants and things to do

The mansion, rooms and scenic setting make this a great spot for a getaway We also enjoyed a homemade chicken pot pie dinner at the inn which was delicious, and the wine and beer selection on site was great too We will definitely come back and stay again

JJ Pekins

Just stayed at the Windsor Mansion and it was an absolutely wonderful experience The rooms are beautiful & tasteful So many changes by the new owner

Please disregard any opinions you’ve taken from a TV show in regards to this treasure That was filmed years ago and is a completely false representation of what you’ll find here The Inn Keeper goes above and beyond to provide a relaxing & enjoyable stay The history here is phenomenal… I would highly recommend staying!! We’ll be back soon, I can’t wait to see the grounds in full bloom

Paige Lang

Words cannot describe how amazing our stay was here at the Inn We stayed for a short weekend but wish we could have stayed longer! Andy was so kind, thoughtful and helpful throughout our entire stay The grounds and view are absolutely stunning as well

I’m already looking forward to coming back and will definitely recommend the Windsor Mansion to all my family and friends!

If it were available, I would select 0 stars We booked a year in advance for a Dartmouth graduation stay and it was cancelled by the host They did not even have the courtesy to call themselves, it was through the resolution team of the rental platform

Prior to the cancellation, the host never communicated or responded to inquiries I simply want others to know that their booking is unreliable and if it is an important event, make sure you have a backup ready I cannot explain how many plans have to be revised by this host’s “inconvenient double-booking”!!!!!

sally DeSipio

We had booked this MONTHS ago for our son’s graduation – we got a notice at the last minute – when everything else in the area is booked – that they cancelled it because of a scheduling snafu – blaming airbnb This is a lie – I interacted with the owner when I first booked They probably didn’t realize it was graduation and decided they could get more money

This is an outrageous policy and airbnb themselves said there would be host repercussions – whatever that means It’s irresponsible Don’t book here because there’s no guarantee you’re going to get it

Irene Stuart

My family stayed here for our sons wedding and it couldn’t have been better The rooms were comfortable and quiet We had the use of the entire inn and yard, we even had our rehearsal dinner at the inn

The breakfast each day was amazing A truly comfortable place to stay in a central location Inn keeper is very accommodating We have stayed in the area many times , staying at other local spots, this was a great find

We stayed here for the week of my 50th reunion The rooms are spacious and comfortable The common areas included a gym, a business center and an outdoor barbecue with a fire pit

The staff were gracious and attentive We were next to a Dartmouth co-op grocery store I did miss not having a hot tub and a pool But I was way too busy to take advantage of them We were 2-3 miles from the college Easy access!

courtney cutrufello

I can’t say enough great things about the Residence Inn in Lebanon I have stayed in a lot of Marriott hotels and even lived in quite a few as a traveling nurse, and they have some of the best customer service I’ve experienced Greg at the front desk is always so nice and helpful

He always schedules multiple reservations for me and is quick to check me in, and remembers my name when he sees me He knows the area well and is very helpful if you have any questions about the area Most hotels do not allow you to check in until 4pm, but this hotel works with so many traveling nurses at Dartmouth, they allow you to check in at 8am so you can sleep after just working all night They are so friendly, kind, and helpful The rooms themselves are very spacious and beautiful, unlike most hotels, they come with a cook top and full refrigerator The beds are also very comfortable and your only about 5 minutes from Dartmouth Hospital if that If you don’t feel like cooking, they have a phenomenal breakfast, evening social, and restaurant across the street I love the way they do breakfast here! Most hotels typically do scrambled eggs, bacon/sausage, potatoes, etc, but the Residence Inn does a phenomenal grab and go breakfast This morning they had a breakfast burrito, spinach quiche, waffles, and ham egg and cheese on a croissant I also grabbed two little chocolate milks to go I have stayed in $500+/night hotels and some of them don’t want to give you the time of day This hotel is among the friendliest and clearly prides themselves on excellent customer service I have stayed at multiple hotels in this area which are all nice hotels including the Hilton Garden Inn, Courtyard, Fairfield Inn, Hampton Inn, and Element (when it was still here) but the Residence is definitely my favorite, highly recommend!I would also like to point out that the Residence’s sister hotel the Courtyard also has phenomenal customer service I only prefer the Residence slightly more because their rooms are larger and have free complimentary breakfast

This place was absolutely amazing

this was my first time visiting/staying here and I loved itWe ended up staying here for 3 nights due to a family member needing treatment @ a nearby hospital & us living 5 hours away ,each wayRight from the start the staff was super friendly, helpful & accommodating The room we got was like a studio apartment, it had a dishwasher, microwave, stove, full fridge, ect The room had a kitchenette area, livingroom, bedroom, closet/vanity area & of course a bathroom all set up beautifully & comfortableI totally recommend visiting/staying here if you get the opportunity, I know that we definitely will, very comfortable & beautiful, 5 ***** from us ♡

The Braeside is the best in the motel category First, it’s clean It passed the white sock test

Our socks were spotless after walking around on the rugs We stayed at a high-end hotel in a large city last year, within 5 minutes (no kidding) our socks were filthy The bathroom is a no frills bathroom with a tub and shower curtain There wasn’t a spec of mold anywhere Second, the towels and sheets were soft and plush I hate staying anywhere we’re the towels are see-through Third, the beds were on the harder side without lumps or sags Fourth, the rooms are quiet! You couldn’t hear a thing in the adjacent rooms Fifth, Patricia and Richard are some of the nicest proprietors we have ever met – friendly, professional, courteous, featuring Vermont innkeeper charm Lastly, the Braeside is affordable! It’s the perfect place to be your base of operation in central VT We’re looking forward to returning next year!

If you are visiting the Woodstock VT area this is the perfect location to have as your base First

the hotel It is an older style setupbut very updated and very clean Staff takes this seriously The room is large compared to the cookie cutter highway hotelsno need to squeeze around the furniture to move around in the room Good bed and TVgreat shower and there is a mini fridge Everything my wife and I needed for a 2 night stay This is a family owned hotel and they are such sweet peoplevery easy to communicate with! They both told us about things to do and see in and around Woodstock VT From restaurant recommendations that were spot onto some back roads directions that led us to some fantastic views We saw an old cemetery with a number of Revolutionary War vets, 3 different covered bridges which interests us, found an amazing thrift store in this HUGE old wooden building in the next town down from WoodstockBridgetown? After our explorations we took advantage of the huge Adirondack chairs on the beautiful hill overlooking some nice country scenerypostcards could be made of this view!! One place we loved was the Woodstock MarketI found some hard to get Vermont Craft brews and we decided on a couple of big sandwiches and salads for a picnic table lunch In the endwe had a wonderful time in the area and would so recommend the kindness and hospitality you will experience while staying at The Braeside Lodge Woodstock Vermont

Taking off one star because the mattress was absolutely horrible and made the worst creaking sound each time I moved It also gave me intense back pain after the first night The mattresses clearly need to be replaced

Other than that The Hotel was clean and the owners were kind and attentive The location is very close to Quechee and the main areas in Woodstock

It’s clean and modern, but for some reason they position the TV in a way that it’s hard to watch from the bed

Several hotels I’ve been to recently did the same thing I don’t know who decided to do this, but I don’t like it Besides that it’s your standard mid-range chain hotel I would prefer free breakfast, but they do have a Starbucks in the lobby where you can buy coffee

This met all of my expectations We were looking for a small New England town with a ton of history and this did not disappoint The Inn was incredibly gorgeous

As soon as you stepped into the lobby you felt like you were transported back in time The staff was wonderfully kind and helpful There are so many rooms to explore, each with their own unique feel The grounds itself were beautiful as well There were a ton of flowers in bloom and a ton of different areas to just sit outside and enjoy the surroundings The room itself was a very nice size and beautiful It made me not want to leave Vermont!

Jacqueline Schillinger

The room we stayed in was unique and unlike the look and feel of a regular hotel room It had a lot of natural light, a comfortable sofa, a luscious king size bed, and comfortable robes to enjoy A spa adjoins the resort and is the definition of relaxation

The resort is well located in town and easy walking to a plethora of activities I highly recommend a stay here

The common areas of the inn are fantastic They have a magnificent fireplace in the lobby and they kept adding 3 to 4 foot-long logs They have fresh baked cookies and tea every afternoon

The rooms are nice, but the heat was very slow to get the room up to temperatureTheir website had wrong info about electric car charging They switched the number of charging stations for themselves and the public stations a mile away (They have 2 vs 4 a mile away) The charging stations at the inn are for Tesla only I was able to plug into an ordinary outlet near one of the Tesla stations that gave me 5 miles for every hour that I was charging They said that they would fix the web page

We enjoyed our stay here The negatives were that we had a view of the back parking lot, the laundry was not working, one ice machine was not working Everything else was positive

Enjoyed the 24/7 coffee and the gym and being on the first floor All of the staff was very friendly and nice A very convenient location We would not hesitate booking here again

Roni Berg

We stayed here overnight Close to I91 Rooms have been upgraded

The AC worked too a point and then the fan was on only It didn’t cool to the temperature we selected, so the room was warmer than we like Also, our room had a bathroom door that got stuck on the floor The floor must’ve been slanted or something because the bottom of the door hit the floor and needed to be pushed past the slant or bulge to open and close it It also affected the shower doors because they would not stay closed Weird and a little annoying, but otherwise the stay was good Hotel was quiet

Perry Dickau

Good location and general accommodations were good – room was clean, breakfast was good, pool area and fitness areas were nice There are also four EV Go charger in the parking lot for EV owners – awesome!Points taken off for shower door that wouldn’t stay closed (on rollers, always rolled open ~6 inches), sink faucet completely loose in the sink, and a heating unit that was so loud ear plugs were found to be necessary
